I am delighted to have one of my mixed media Cyanotypes selected by Visual Arts Scotland, for Common Ground; The Living Landscape  at Kirkcudbright Galleries, Dumfries and Galloway.

This is a curated mixed exhibition of Contemporary Artists, from Scotland and beyond, that runs from 31st January 2026 – 4th May 2026.

My mixed media cyanotypes are created here on the Isle of Lewis, from flora growing here, using everyday plants which grow on our Hebridean  island and are believed to have medicinal qualities and /or be edible. They are exposed here under Isle of Lewis sunlight.

Cyanotype is a process traditionally used for botanical identification and the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh has a great selection of historical cyanotypes. I have given it a contemporary twist, by using embossing collage and mixed media.

The Kirkcudbright Artists’ Collection comprises over 600 works of fine art, illustrations, books, decorative art, craftwork, silverware and furniture. In addition, it includes an extensive collection of archives and photographs.

Highlights of the collection include paintings by the Faed family, Charles Oppenheimer and Samuel Peploe; silver jewellery designed for Liberty of London by Jessie M King and the correspondence of distinguished artists such as E A Taylor.

In 2015 the collection was formally recognised as one of Scotland’s Nationally Significant Collections. These ‘Recognised Collections’ can be found in museums and galleries across Scotland and together they showcase the very best of the nation’s holdings of art and antiquities.

Why not make a day of it and see this fantastic collection, at the same time as the Common Ground Exhibition?
